Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions?

We have answers.

Can I take a tour of Brisbane Pet Motel?

Absolutely, we encourage people to visit us before their pets first stay. This gives you the opportunity to meet with our team and ensure that you feel 100% comfortable before making a booking. All goodbyes are said at reception for drop off, so if you have not visited prior to check-in, we may not be able to show you around on arrival. This is because it can cause more stress for your pet if you come into the facility and then leave them. If this is the case, when you check-in, please ask staff to show you around on the check-out day (except for school holidays).

We are available for tours without prior appointment Monday-Saturday between 8am-10am and 1.30pm-4pm. Please note if you come outside of these hours we may not be able to take you for a tour.

For the welfare of our boarding guests, we do not allow visitors to walk through our boarding facilities during school holiday periods or long weekends.

We feed super premium dry food brand Royal Canin to our canine and feline guests. We are also stockists of raw food brand Proudi, Raw4Paws and Big Dog Pet Foods. You are welcome to request any of the brands of food we stock to feed your pets. Please let us know if your pet has any dietary restrictions so we can help accommodate and avoid any digestive issues.

If you would like to supply your pets diet you are welcome to bring it with you. We ask that you supply more than they would normally eat at home in case you are delayed in collection or if we need to increase their portion size due to the extra playtime they get while in our care.

What do I need to bring with me when checking in my pet?
  • Payment to cover your pet’s stay and any extras
  • Current Vaccination Certificate – our friendly staff can let you know what vaccinations your pets need
  • Flea/Tick prevention is recommended for all pets

Do you accept my pet if they require medication?

We understand that some pets may require medication during their stay, and we are dedicated to ensuring their health and well-being.

Here are our medication requirements to provide you with a clear understanding of how we handle this important aspect of your pet’s care:

  • Our staff is experienced in administering medications to pets. We will follow your instructions carefully to ensure they receive the correct dosage at the correct time.
  • On Check-In, we kindly request that you provide the medication with detailed information about the medication/s, including: the medication name, dosage & frequency, administration instructions, and any known allergies/sensitivities.
  • Be sure to keep all medications in the bottle administered from your vet with the vet label intact. This gives us the most accurate information on the medication we are administering your pet.
  • Supply more than is expected to be used during your pets stay incase you are delayed in collection.
  • In case of any questions or concerns related to your pet’s medication/condition, we will have your contact details & your vet’s details on hand to ensure prompt communication.
What are the vaccination requirements for my pet to board at Brisbane Pet Motel?

We require all pets to be fully vaccinated and up to date to board with us or have a Titre test showing full coverage within the last 12 months.

For dogs the vaccination requirements are an annual Canine Cough Vaccination and Annual C5 (C4 + Bordetella Bronchiseptica) Vaccination.

For cats we require an annual F3 Vaccination (Feline 3)

We will accept pets who have had a titre test within the last 12 months showing full immunity to Canine Distemper, Canine Parvovirus, and Canine Hepatitis as well as an annual Canine Cough vaccination.

Can we dropoff/pickup outside of office hours?

We are unfortunately not able to accommodate out of hours drop off or pickups. This is due to local council bylaws in regards to noise and our facility being in a suburban area. This is also for the health and welfare of our boarding guests who will be disturbed in times they are resting. If you have any queries about how to best manage pickup/dropoff times our friendly staff will be happy to talk to you.

Can I bring in my pets personal belongings?

It best to keep your pets belongings at home, to help us maintain the highest levels of cleanliness we regularly rotate and wash bedding. Dogs love to play so beds, blankets and own collars can turn into great wrestling toys! We provide a variety of beds and bedding for your pet to be as comfortable as possible during their stay. We also supply safe toys that cannot be chewed or swallowed by even the most powerful chewer.

We also supply coats/jackets for the colder months and Thundershirts for our anxious guests for the storm season.

Can you accommodate my pet for just the day?

We do offer a daycare service on weekdays at $25 per dog per day. Daycare is usually used as a chance for dogs to get used to the boarding facility, meet the staff and become comfortable before their first boarding stay. This includes playtime, social interaction and a resting area. On your dog’s first day with us, we prefer to give them their own kennel to allow them time to adjust to the new environment. If you would like your dog to make some friends then our experienced staff will assess their temperament and match them of a similar temperament, age and size. We do not feed our daycares guests so we don’t upset their routine at home.

We do also offer a daycare service for cats in solo accommodation for $20 per day.

Does Brisbane Pet Motel accept undesexed pets or pets in season?

While we recommend and encourage not desexing your pet until it is fully grown we do not accept pets in season at any point. This is because even desexed males can become stressed or go off their food if they smell a female in season.

We do accept undesexed pets however only outside of school holiday periods and sharing with other dogs is up to the discretion of Brisbane Pet Motel.

What happens if my pet needs vet treatment while boarding?

In the unlikely event that your pet requires veterinary treatment during their stay we will attempt to contact you or your listed emergency contact on the telephone numbers provided and seek instructions. If we are unable to reach you on the telephone, we will attempt to contact you via the email address provided and seek instructions. If we are still unable to make contact through these methods, we will make a decision based on the welfare and best interest of the pet.

Should your pet require veterinary treatment, they will be taken Nundah Village Veterinary Clinic for regular hours, for outside regular hours your pet will be transferred to Queensland Veterinary Specialists or Brisbane Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Service.

We do not charge for transport to and from the vet, but we do not take pets to routine care veterinary appointments.

All veterinary bills will be required to be paid by the pet’s owner as per the contract of boarding.

What is Canine Cough?

Canine Cough is one of the most common respiratory diseases in dogs and is highly contagious, due to being an airborne virus. Dogs can become infected with Canine Cough wherever they gather, such as in parks, dog runs, obedience classes, dog shows or kennels. Even if your dog is vaccinated there is still some risk of infection.

The only sign should be a harsh hacking cough, which often finishes with gagging.

It is recommended that your dog be kept as quiet as possible, as undue stress or excitement can cause these symptoms to become worse. More urgent treatment is required if signs such as lethargy, loss of appetite, or greenish nasal discharge occurs and the cough persists.

No amount of supervision, sanitation, or personalized care can prevent a dog from catching an airborne virus.

At Brisbane Pet Motel should we detect any pet displaying symptoms of Canine Cough we will isolate them from other pets to stop the spread of this virus.

Brisbane Pet Motel will make all attempts to prevent any outbreak of Canine Cough, however like human colds and flu’s the virus is unpredictable even in the cleanest environment. Brisbane Pet Motel will not be held accountable in the event that an animal contracts the virus but will make every attempt to make sure the pet is comfortable and treatment is sought. Any veterinarian fees will be billed to the corresponding owner.

After your pet’s holiday

After your pet’s holiday, it’s not unusual for habits to change and they may require readjusting when they get home, just like us when we return from a holiday.

Some common post-holiday behaviour includes:

  • Over excitement: Your pets are thrilled to have you home and to be home so they may run around and go crazy with excitement and delight from being back with their pack. This usually abates in a day or so.
  • Exhaustion/Lethargy: We also often hear from clients that their pet came home and slept for the entire day after their stay. This is not uncommon as their playtime each day begins at 7am and doesn’t subside until 5pm for their entire stay. During their holiday they have more activity and stimulation than they normally do at home so they are ready for a good rest upon their return.
  • Food gulping: Once again normal eating habits will resume within a few days, please don’t be alarmed, this is a very common behaviour post- holiday as your pet has been in the company of other pets and is very typical canine behaviour, regardless of how civilised they may normally behave at home.
  • Upset tummy: This can usually be attributed to a change in diet while staying with us. We feed all our pets Royal Canin, a premium dry food which is industry endorsed. You are more than welcome to use your pet’s own food for your next visit, please ask our team for further details.
  • Excessive thirst: Often while having so much fun with friends along with the sensory overload which happens with so many playmates and things to do, pets can forget to drink enough water and this may catch up with them once they return home. This again will settle once a normal routine is resumed at home. It is best not to allow your pets to gulp more than one bowl of water as they can be prone to bloat and vomiting if too much is consumed too fast.
  • Weight loss can occur in certain breeds or due to certain behaviours, such as excess activity and even anxiety. Pets that come into boarding quite lean, are young/very active or breeds that are at risk of bloat are fed twice a day to help combat this. We can’t guarantee weight will not be lost, however, we will ensure we do our utmost to prevent it.

Please remember that it’s important to re-establish all the usual home patterns and follow your normal home schedule. Our pets love following a schedule as it makes them feel safe and secure.
